Mixing the right colours can sometimes be a chore! We often spend quality time just thinking about how to combine the perfect colours for our dresses, shoes and bags, and get it right at the end of it all. If you are in this category, you are not alone. Though we were not born knowing how to do it, the skill can be learnt and mastered. Here are four strategies to make it easier.
- Keep it in the family.
This is pretty easy and straightforward, it’s actually one of the easiest way to get your colours right. Wear colours with the same tones; that is, similar or closely related colours. For instance, you can wear pastels with pastels, earth tones with earth tones, jewel tones with jewel tones, etc.
- Find complimentary colours with a colour chart
When it comes to colours, complimentary actually means opposite. For instance, you have black and white… such colours look great together, you know… the opposite attract thing.
Look for colours on the opposite side of the wheel, true complimentary colours are the same distance from the center of the wheel.
- Let a print guide you.
A print can also help you combine your colours well. All you need to do is get a print from your favourite designer, and break it down into its different colors; then combine your outfit from it. You can also have fun ranking the colours in the print from most used to least used and wear larger items like dresses, coats, or sweaters in the most-used colours and smaller items and accessories in the least-used colours.
- When in doubt, do black and white.
You can never go wrong with this. If after trying for so long, you are still feeling confused, be like me and settle for black and white. They are the superstars of the family.
With these few strategies, you should never get your colours wrong anymore.
