The liver is the largest organ inside the body that helps the body digest food, store energy, and remove poisons. But liver disease can occur if the liver is not properly taken care of, or due to an inherited predisposition. There are many kinds of liver diseases. Viruses cause some of them, like hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. Others can be the result of drugs, obesity, poisons or drinking too much alcohol.

When the liver is damaged, some of the internal organs begin to fail too and it can eventually lead to death. This is why it is important to pay attention to your body and immediately report to the hospital if you have more than one of these signs.

1. Nausea

Nausea is the first symptom of kidney failure. This is when you lack appetite, have diarrhea, and feel constantly exhausted. These symptoms can be a sign of a couple of other things, but if it is persistent, you should see your doctor.

2. Personality Changes

Another sign of a damaged liver is hormonal changes. This is the process where one develops cognitive issues due to accumulated toxins in the blood that move to the brain. One starts to experience confusion and lack concentration. This can eventually lead to forgetfulness, changes in sleeping habits, and unresponsiveness.

3.  Abdominal Pain

When the liver starts to damage, one starts to feel the pain in the upper right abdomen, or just under the lower right ribs. The pain can be severe and sharp, and it may come and go. If the pain is so intense that you can’t sit comfortably, you should seek immediate medical attention.

4. Jaundice

Jaundice is when the skin becomes yellow, along with the nails and the whites of the eyes. This occurs when the liver isn’t breaking down, and those suffering from jaundice may also have dark urine and light-coloured stool. All these are a sign that you need to get checked.

5. Fatigue and Weakness

We often times dismiss fatigue thinking it is a normal side effect of stress. When this happens constantly it might mean a low blood oxygen level and waste accumulation which all points to liver damage.

6. Bad Breath and body odour

People suffering from a damaged liver can also start to experience bad breath and body odour. So if you notice a sudden change or you suddenly begin to smell funny, you should visit your doctor.

7. Bruising

When the liver is damaged, the body produces less protein needed for blood clotting. This means that the person might start to bleed and get bruised easily.
