“Um, I…I went to Teni’s workplace today. I just couldn’t hold back my feelings. Before you castigate me for moving around the streets of Lagos without my protocol, I disguised myself properly. At first, she didn’t want to see me, but I was able to persuade her and with the help of her colleagues, I won her over.
She granted me an interview which would be aired on all important television channels. She has forgiven me and given me another chance. I love her.”
Ade quickly rose to his feet and walked towards my cellar. He pulled out two fresh glasses.
“This is too much good news. We have to celebrate.” He put down the glasses and filled them with the pinkish wine from the black bottle. The powerful strawberry flavor wafted through the air.
Before I took the drink, I had to confirm if there was any drop of alcohol in it. I didn’t want to go back to my old life. I wanted to be alcohol and substance free. I didn’t want to give Teni a chance to suspect me again. I didn’t want to do things that would make her uncomfortable. This was true love and respect. And any man, who truly loved his woman, would do anything to make her happy. I wanted Teni to be pleased, plus, I was doing my health and career a whole lot of good.
I didn’t want to end up like other artists who were drug addicts. They spent all their fortunes on cocaine and Meth. I wanted to be a true success and inspiration to everyone out there.

I never knew that Ade was watching from the corner of his eye.
“There’s no alcohol. I would never drag you back on your journey,” he remarked. He told me that the strawberry drink was a special brand of wine. It was a mix of milk, honey, pomegranates, dates and red grapes. Well, I believed him. I had not tasted anything so delicious for a long time. Maybe I did, but my heartbreak had dimmed the effect of my taste buds.
I nodded and emptied the drink into my mouth.
“I am so glad that she has forgiven you. You two were made for each other. I have never seen you that hooked on a lady. I can’t wait for you two to get married.” Ade raised a glass and sipped from it.
I smiled. My best friend was right. I wasn’t a relationship person. I just had sex with ladies and moved on. I didn’t have a love life, but all that had changed because of Teni. She was different from the other women that I had come across. She was not interested in my fame or my money. She had never asked me for anything! At a point, I’d suspected she was faking it, but when her good virtues persisted, I had to fall for her.
“I definitely would keep this one. She would give us celebrity children.” I winked and we both had a good laugh about it.
“Would you tell the others about it? Would you make the relationship official?” Ade inquired.
I shrugged, “That would be all on Teni. If she wants us to go public, I don’t mind. I just don’t want her to get hurt, because the Media could be very inconsiderate and cruel in their assessment.”
“That’s a good idea. I wish you two the best in all things.”
“Thank you Ade. Thank you for not giving up on me.” I nodded.
“What are friends for?” He winked.
When our conversation was over, he returned to his soap opera. And my interest moved to the big clock on the wall. I had to think of our special dinner at the five Star Lodge. I wanted it to be perfect.
There’s only one person that would help me to light the torch and make things very special. I needed my personal assistant. She would have to cook up something special for us.
Two hours later, Jane was in my house with two colored boxes.
“Hi, boss,” she flashed her teeth.
“Come on in,” I stared blankly at her, wondering what the boxes contained.
Jane was talkative and I didn’t enjoy spending too much time with her. Ade had a crush on my personal assistant, and it baffled me some times. How could one be smitten by such a chatty lady?
“So, where are you going to have that dinner?” She asked as she strolled inside.
Luckily for me, Ade had left to get us some Chinese food for lunch. I didn’t want them to meet, because they’d begin to talk to each other, while abandoning me in the process. I couldn’t let that happen. This dinner was very special to me. It was the beginning of a new day for both of us. We were rewriting on a fresh page. I had to make this perfect.
“None of your business,” I smirked.
“Really? Well, too bad. I needed to know so that I could choose the perfect wear. If it is a mediocre restaurant, she doesn’t need to dress up. She just has to go with the flow.” Jane gestured with her hands.
I scoffed, “You’re trying to get words from my mouth. I am not saying, but just know that it is one of the most expensive lodges in Lagos.” I winked.
Her eyes roamed my face as she searched for answers.
“Um, Blue River?” She scratched her chin.
“No,” I answered.
“Aha! It’s no other place than Crystal Ball Lodge! That’s where you’re going!” Jane smacked her hands together and clapped herself.
I had to give it to her, she was smart.
“I give up.” I threw my hands into the air.
“Crystal Ball isn’t just any kind of Lodge. It is for the crème de la crème of the society. And that’s where you fit in. From the little I know about that place, you’ll need a black card to gain entrance and this card costs a million Naira. I know you have it. Your date has to look perfect. Like a crystal ball, she needs to radiate her glory tonight. She needs to look the part of a princess.”
Jane made sense sometimes, but I had to tell her that Teni wasn’t that kind of person. She wasn’t a fashion freak. I just wanted her to look good. I was too late.
Jane had gone ahead to check out the boxes which contained the clothes and jewelries.
She pulled out a pink dress with diamond studs all over. It was extremely thick, and the embroidery was impectaxile. This dress would definitely cost and arm and a leg. It was simply magnificent and my Teni was having it. I was prepared to rock her world and spoil her with adventurous trips to different parts of the globe. She deserved that.
“No need to say it, you like it and she is going to like it!” Jane winked.
She quickly dropped the glowing dress and fetched a mini box, which was placed inside one of the colored boxes. She pulled out an amber necklace and a pair of teardrop earrings which were the same color. I didn’t argue. Everything would be a perfect fit.
“Now that we are on the same page, what do I do next?” Jane waited.
“Um, nothing. I would pay you off and deliver the clothes to the owner.” I winked.
“Good then, nice doing business with you.”
“If this dress works out with the date, I’ll give you a raise, Jane. And that’s a promise.”
“It’s going to work out!” Jane squealed excitedly. Time was going. It was moving faster than I envisaged. I had to get ready. I was Prince charming and I needed to wait on Princess Cinderella.
