Disney’s live-action adaptation of Aladdin easily took the number one spot over the four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend. The movie was only estimated to bring in around $80 million but instead earned $112.7 million, proving there were a lot of people who were not as scared of Will Smith’s Genie as they claimed to be on social media. Aladdin holds the record for the fifth-highest Memorial Day weekend total ever. Another Disney movie holds the record for the holiday weekend, which is 2007’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End with $139 million.
John Wick 3: Parabellum fell to number two this weekend with a four-day haul of $31 million. To date, the action-packed sequel has earned over $182 million globally in just two weeks in theatres, which is also defying box office predictions. The debut weekend secured the official release date of John Wick 4, which diehard fans were hoping would happen since Keanu Reeves had expressed interest in coming back.
Avengers: Endgame fell to number three at the box office this weekend with $22.3 million for its fifth weekend in theatres. The massive movie has slowed down at the box office quite a bit since exploding out of the gate with over $1 billion in a weekend. A Dog’s Journey was able to take the seventh spot this weekend after earning $5.5 million. The family movie has earned nearly $50 million at the box office in its two weeks in theatres.
