Jeez! Does any group survive these days? First Zayn Malik quit the band altogether, then the X Factor alums’ proposed hiatus kept changing, and now Harry Styles has officially left 1D’s Modest Management. According to reports, Harry Styles signed with CAA’s Jeffrey Azoff, son of industry veteran Irving Azoff. Obviously, The 22-year-old frontman is now a solo artist following his former bandmate Zayn Malik in a different direction, away from the band that made him a household name.
Azoff is the son of Hollywood manager Irving Azoff, who manages Christina Aguilera, the Eagles and Thirty Seconds To Mars. An agent at CAA (Creative Artists Agency) who are involved with 1D’s touring business, Jeff Azoff and Styles have been mates for the past couple of years and photographed at dinner in Los Angeles as well as family gatherings. It is believed the Azoffs own the boat which hosted his holiday break with Kendall Jenner.
Modest confirmed the move in a statement that, “We wish Harry the very best. It has been a real pleasure working with him,” said Modest executives Richard Griffiths and Harry Magee. “Harry is a total gentleman, and we know our good friend Jeffrey Azoff will look after him.” According to an earlier report in The Sun newspaper, Styles’ new team is working on launching the artist’s solo career “by around this time next year.” Whether that involves retaining Simon Cowell’s Syco Music as his U.K. label remains to be seen.
Many young girls have broken hearts following this report of the exit of the one direction hearthrob. Styles has long been tagged as the member most likely to strike out on his own but was beaten to the punch by Zayn Malik.
Insiders reportedly suggest that Styles isn’t rushing into a solo career and will spend most of 2016 working on his debut album. A source told Billboard that “nothing has changed regarding the hiatus plans for the group, and all will be revealed in due time from the band members’ own mouths.”
