Funny lot. When Matthew P Doyle tweeted this morning that he’d “confronted a Muslim women [sic]” and asked her to “explain Brussels”, he can’t have foreseen the reaction his tweet would get.
Quite aside from the inherent racism of the tweet and why he thought a random woman in Croydon would have the inside scoop on a terrorist attack hundreds of miles away, Twitter was tickled by both his astonishment that she didn’t and the phrasing of his tweet.
“I confronted a Muslim women yesterday in Croydon. I asked her to explain Brussels. She said “Nothing to do with me”. A mealy mouthed reply.”
The tweet has since been deleted but that hasn’t stemmed the flow of mealy mouthed reactions. Rather than point out the inherent racism in the original tweet, internet users have decided to go solidly down the path of ridicule.
