The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has called on Nigerians to visit their Local Government Areas, LGAs, of registration to pick up their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs)
INEC had announced February 8 was the last day for collection of PVCs, so as to give room for preparations for the elections.
The commission had earlier planned on storing the uncollected PVCs after the proposed date at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
Meanwhile, as a means of sensitizing Nigerians on the need to have a voters card, INEC had used public address systems from street to streets, hosted media programs, amongst other means.
In a recent interview, an INEC official made it known that there are still millions of uncollected PVCs across the country.
However, the commission initiated another channel of urging Nigerians to collect their PVCs, hence, partnering with the Nigeria Communication Commission, NCC, in sending SMS to every citizen of the country.
It read, “Are you a registered voter & yet to collect your PVC? Please visit INEC’s LGA office where you registered to collect your PVC from 9 am – 3 pm, Monday to Friday until 8th February 2019. Remember, NO PVC, NO VOTING!!!”
