Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has slammed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for reportedly asking him to drop his ambition to run in the presidential race for 2019.

As the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) tinkers with the idea of picking a consensus presidential candidate, an aspirant and former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has slammed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for reportedly asking him to drop his ambition.

Atiku was reported to have asked Lamido to step down for him in the presidential primary.

The former Vice President was said to have made this appeal at the PDP secretariat in Dutse, Jigawa State during his visit to the state as part of his tour to rally for support ahead of party’s presidential primaries.

Referring to Lamido as his younger brother, Atiku related the incident with what happened in 1993 election under the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Katsina State when the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua stepped down for his elder brother Gen Shehu Musa Yar’Adua.

In a response to Atiku’s statement through his media aide, Adamu Muhd Usman, Lamido said, “While it is true that he is older than me agewise, I’m senior to him politically because I was in the House of Representatives in 1979 when he was an employee of Nigerian Customs Services.

And if age is the criterion for standing election then he should drop out for Buhari ” Adamu said despite all odds, Lamido has been patient, loyal, committed and consistent.

“Even if Lamido did not shows interest to contest, PDP should have called Lamido to be the flag bearer and if there is anyone the other aspirants should step down for, it should be Sule Lamido because he has the good and political will, experienced and capacity to confront the ruling party, APC.

Also if Lamido is to step down, why would he aspire in the first place? Sule Lamido is out to run for the president come 2019 God willing”, Adamu stated.
