The biggest celebrity weddings of 2019

As 2019 comes to a close, it’s time to take stock of the year that was and remind ourselves of what a love-filled 12 months the entertainment world had.

It seems like every few days of 2019, a different celebrity duo has taken to social media to commemorate their wedding, showing off their designer dresses and tuxedos, their supremely starry guest lists, and their jaw-dropping venues.

Here’s a rundown of who’s tied the knot this year—while we wait for news of weddings from engaged couples, including Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom and J.Lo and A-Rod in the coming year.

Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger

Pratt and Schwarzenegger exchanged vows on June 8, just about a year after they were first spotted spending time together. Their romantic ceremony reportedly took place at San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Lauren Hashian

couple on red carpet

After spending over a decade together, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Lauren Hashian made their relationship official with a destination wedding in Hawaii on August 18. The couple first met in while filming The Game Plan and have since welcomed two children together.

Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence took her wedding to Cooke Maroney to Newport, Rhode Island, where the couple married in a supposedly haunted mansion. The actress reportedly wore a Dior dress down the aisle and the couple hosted a clambake rehearsal dinner. Around 11 p.m., Boston’s Baddest Burger and Sandwich Company food truck parked on the mansion grounds to serve celebrity guests like Kris Jenner, Amy Schumer, Sienna Miller, Ashley Olsen, Nicole Richie and Adele late-night bites.

Nicki Minaj and Kenneth “Zoo” Petty

On October 21, Nicki Minaj revealed she married longtime love Kenneth “Zoo” Petty on Instagram. While we don’t know how exactly the wedding went down (we can assume it was pretty private), Minaj shared a video of His&Hers merchandise including “Mr. and Mrs.” mugs and “Bride and Groom” baseball hats.

Zoë Kravitz and Karl Glusman

Zoë Kravitz and Karl Glusman wed in a low-key affair at Lenny Kravitz’s Paris townhouse, a sprawling four-story mansion in the 16th arrondissement. The couple began dating in 2016 and the Big Little Lies actor confirmed their engagement in 2018 to Rolling Stone.

The couple reportedly first married in a quiet civil ceremony in May 2019, with the French nuptials following in June 2019. Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, Cara Delevingne and Shailene Woodley were all in attendance at the Parisian wedding.

Heidi Klum and Tom Kaulitz

The supermodel and her musician beau waited until July 2019 to reveal that they had said “I do” in secret months before, on February 22. The low-key nuptials took place exactly a year after the couple first met, and just a few months after they announced their engagement on Christmas Eve 2018. A less-secret second wedding ceremony was held on August 4th in Capri on the same yacht where Jackie Kennedy married Aristotle Onassis decades ago.

As expected, Michele and Reich’s March 9 nuptials were nothing short of Glee-ful. The duo tied the knot in an outdoor ceremony in Northern California, while their costars, loved ones and officiant Ryan Murphy looked on. For the occasion, Michele wore a strapless ballgown-style dress, styled her hair in a low bun, and carried an all-white bouquet, while Reich opted for a navy blue suit and matching bowtie.

Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Corley

Less than a year after proposing on the Fourth of July in 2018, Chance the Rapper married his childhood sweetheart at the Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach, California, on March 9. They exchanged vows under a rotunda overlooking the ocean, with Corley in a strapless white gown and Chance in a crisp white tux. Guests included Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and Dave Chappelle, but the real star of the show was the newlyweds’ daughter Kensli, who ran down the aisle mid-ceremony and got to hang out in her dad’s arms for the rest of the nuptials.

Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber

Justin and Hailey officially became Mr and Mrs Bieber in the eyes of the law on September 13, 2019, when they received their marriage license in New York. Though the couple remained tight-lipped about the marriage, the pair eventually took to Instagram (where else?) to confirm the news.

The couple’s religious ceremony took place on 30 September 2019 in South Carolina. The Biebers chose the Montage Palmetto Bluff, a sprawling 20,000-acre luxury waterfront resort located 15 miles north of Savannah, for their special day, which was said to be inspired by The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks.

Gina Rodriguez and Joe LoCicero

Rodriguez married her occasional costar and longtime love on May 6, a day that she called “absolute magic.” As evidenced by a video montage the Jane the Virgin star shared on Instagram a few days later, their nuptials were nothing short of stunning: The pair traded vows in a backyard ceremony, in front of a circular altar covered in pink and white flowers, with Rodriguez’s onscreen flame Justin Baldoni officiating.

Ellie Goulding and Caspar Jopling

Ellie Goulding and Caspar Jopling took the traditional route when confirming their engagement in August 2018, announcing the news via an ad in the London Times. The couple wed on August 31 2019 at York Minster Cathedral, with guests Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom and Sienna Miller in attendance. Goulding chose bespoke Chloé gown designed by Natacha Ramsay-Lévi for the occasion.

Sabrina Elba, 2019

Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre wed in a three-day extravaganza in Marrakech in April 2019, after initially meeting in 2017 and becoming engaged in February 2018. The couple, whose wedding featured in the July 2019 issue of British Vogue, chose the location as it was the perfect meeting point for their families: “My family is from east Africa and Idris’s is from west Africa, so we thought it would be fun to meet somewhere in between,” Dhowre told Vogue of the location.

The bride wore a custom off-the-shoulder Vera Wang gown and the groom a three-piece Ozwald Boateng suit for the main event.

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas

After becoming engaged in 2017 and eloping in Las Vegas for their civil ceremony in May 2019, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas finalised their wedding plans in June 2019, with a private ceremony at the Château de Torreau in Sarrians, France.

Naturally, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas were guests, as was Turner’s on-screen sister and best friend Maisie Williams, who was one of two Maids of Honour. Turner, a Louis Vuitton ambassador looked to the Maison and its creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière, for her wedding gown, which featured a cut-out back design, fitted lace sleeves, and an embellished skirt.

Toyin Abraham-Ajeyemi

News of the wedding of this Nollywood actress and filmmaker broke the internet as her journey towards finding love again is simply amazing. Toyin who was once married to fellow actor Adeniyi Johnson had a messy separation that trailed her for months. Toyin not only finding love again, but also becoming a mom for the first time, is somewhat of an inspiration to her fans.

Chizzy Alichi

Alichi is another Nollywood actress whose wedding left many people inspired. The hardworking eastern Nollywood screen diva, won over hearts when she built a beautiful house for her parents, stating that the building project was the reason she wasn’t rocking designer bags and shoes like her colleagues in the industry. Well, Chizzy’s hard work not only got her more fans, but it also won the heart of a man who was eventually blessed with the opportunity to become her husband.

Bambam and Teddy A

This beautiful couple broke the internet with both their traditional and white wedding ceremony. The couple who first met in the 2018 BBNaija house, did not give people reasons to believe their relationship would continue outside the house. However, this was not the case. When news of their engagement hit the net, fans of the couple could not be more excited. The couple had their traditional ceremony in Nigeria and their white wedding in Dubai.

Adekunle Gold and Simi

This is another couple that took a lot of Nigerians by surprise with news of their wedding. The singers who never made their relationship public were believed to be long term friends. Even though some people had their suspicions about the nature of their relationships, it still came as a surprise to many when photos from their wedding ceremony hit the internet.
