From rappers Nicki Minaj and Cardi B infamous fights to Small Doctor threatening a police officer with an unlicensed gun, 2018 was definitely a rollercoaster for celebrities and fans alike. Here are this year’s most unforgettable celebrity scandals and controversies. It’s hard to believe that all of this happened in just 12 months! 

Nicki Minaj and Cardi B’s feud

Tensions between the two rappers date back to early 2017, but their insane brawl at this year’s Harper’s BazaarICONS party on Sept. 7 officially marks the start of their crazy feud. A physical altercation at the New York Fashion Week event left Cardi bruised and shoeless. According to Cosmopolitan, Cardi aggressively flung her heel at Nicki, but somehow ended up with a huge bruise on her own forehead. Shortly after the event, the “Bodak Yellow” rapper released a statement on Instagram, claiming that Nicki talked sh*t about her career and parenting skills.

Small Doctor threatening to shoot a police officer

The music star was arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly threatening a police officer with a gun. According to the commissioner of police in Lagos state, Edgal Imohimi, the singer and his crew (numbering four) had threatened to shoot a police officer at a traffic point at the ever-busy Oshodi expressway.

In a video released on social media, Small Doctor was seen being disarmed by fully armed men of the Nigeria Police Force. According to the police commissioner, Small Doctor and his gang will be charged for threatening violence on policemen and being in possession of fore.

The Markle Family Drama

Every family has their fair share of drama when it comes time for a wedding. But Meghan and Harry’s wedding had a unique set of dramatic events. First, Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha Markle, started commenting on multiple “mistakes” she believes Meghan has been making. Rightfully so, Meghan decided the only family members to be invited to her wedding would be her father and mother. But wait, there’s more (obvs). After news broke that Meghan’s father staged photos for the paparazzi to take of him and earned some money, he decided he would not be attending the wedding “because he was getting heart surgery that same day”. I guess becoming a princess really isn’t as glamorous as I thought.

Osinbajo approves misuse of 5.8 Billion Naira intervention funds

Timi Frank, Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Party revealed that the Federal House of Representatives in an investigative report indicted Yemi Osinbajo in the approval and misuse of 5.8 Billion Naira intervention funds for the North East in 2017.

Considering that the VP has always spoken up publicly and extensively against corruption in Nigeria, we van’t say we are not disappointed.

Kevin Hart stepping down as Oscars host over homophobic tweets

Hart stepped down as Oscars host following his initial refusal to apologize for his previous homophobic comments and tweets. Shortly after it was announced that Hart would host, Twitter users resurfaced past tweets from Hart where he tweeted words like “homo” and “gay,” as well as a Rolling Stone interview where he said, “I’m not homophobic… But me, as a heterosexual male, if I can prevent my son from being gay, I will.”

He said he was told by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to apologize or have his hosting duties revoked. In the span of hours on Dec. 5, Hart had stepped down from the prestigious awards show hosting job just two days after the announcement.

Klint da Drunk accused of abandoning daughter by baby mama

Klint da Drunk also got involved in a baby mama scandal. In March 2018, a certain lady simply identified as Sandra Novo Jacob brought to everyone’s knowledge of her daughter who she had with Klint da Drunk.

The lady revealed that she had a relationship with Klint da Drunk who is married with three kids, years ago. According to her, the comedian had taken responsibility for the child initially but however stopped sending money for the daughter’s upkeep.

She went as far as posting screenshots of funds paid into her account by the comedian. She, however, said she decided to come out of the closet because of the comedian’s failure to take care of their daughter.

Wande Coal accused of kidnapping his son

Though Wande Coal manages to stay away from controversies for a while, 2018 had other plans for him when his baby mama made a wild accusation. Wande Coal’s baby mama, Temitope Ogunnusi, revealed how her son was kidnapped by the singer’s family.

In April 2018, Temitope granted an interview and revealed how she had to drop out of school at the age of 16 back in 2008 when she found out that she was pregnant for Wande Coal. According to her, she reached out to the singer who denied the pregnancy. After delivery, Wande’s mom, Mrs. Omolara Oluwayemisi Ojosipe, arranged to see the baby. A DNA test was conducted in 2010 and it showed the singer as the father of Joseph.

The baby was, however, allegedly abducted by the mom after cajoling Tope to allow him to come and spend some time with her. Thereafter, she reportedly blocked every means of communication between her son and Tope. In his response, Wande Coal and his management issued a statement a few days after the scandal began to trend on social media denying the accusations levelled against the singer by Temitope Ogunnusi.

Stephanie Coker’s husband’s cheating scandal

Stephanie Coker’s marriage to Olumide Aderinokun was hit by an infidelity scandal in 2018. In February 2018, the internet went into a frenzy when screenshots of a conversation between Olumide and a young lady, Yolanda Ayemo hit social media.

The two were allegedly planning to hook up at one of the popular hotels in Lagos. It didn’t take long before it became hot gist on social media. Stephanie Coker wasn’t even moved by the drama that almost dented her young marriage as she stayed silent all through the scandal.

Her husband, on the other hand, came out to deny the claims that he was cheating on his wife with a university undergraduate. The couple ended the year on a good note as Olumide won the primaries to contest for the house of representative seat in his Ogun state-federal constituency.

In July the comic was accused of cheating on his model wife, Erin (33), who was pregnant at the time.

The actor first denied the accusations but later posted a video on Instagram apologising to his family. It later came out that apparently someone had tried to set Kevin up in a failed extortion attempt.

Harvey Weinstein

More than 70 women, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Rose McGowan and Angelina Jolie have accused the former studio head of sexual harassment or assault. In the wake of the allegations, Weinstein was fired from his own company and expelled by the Television Academy, and his wife of 10 years, Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman, announced she was leaving him. Weinstein, who denies all allegations of rape against him, checked into a treatment centre but left after one week. Weinstein turned himself to authorities on May 25, 2018, on charges involving actress Lucia Evans and another unidentified woman. He appeared in court on June 5 and pleaded not guilty to felony rape charges.

Morgan Freeman

CNN reported that eight women came forward with allegations of harassment against actor Morgan Freeman. Two said he “subjected them to unwanted touching.” Another woman who worked as a production assistant for the 2015 film “Going in Style” said he tried to lift her skirt up multiple times, asking whether she was wearing underwear.

 Cristiano Ronaldo

Kathryn Mayorga accused soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo of sexually assaulting her in a hotel room in 2009. Mayorga’s attorney filed a civil complaint regarding her allegation which also alleges that she signed a non-disclosure agreement in 2010 for an out-of-court settlement of $375,000.

In a statement posted on Twitter, Ronaldo denied Mayorga’s allegation. “I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in. Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense,” he wrote.

Stan Lee

Multiple nurses accused late Lee of sexually harassing them while they were caring for him, and another woman has alleged that he masturbated in front of her and groped her. The owner at the nursing company has openly said to people that Stan has sexually harassed every single nurse that has been to the house.

Kemi Adeosun Certificate scandal

The Minister for Finance, Kemi Adeosun’s NYSC certificate scandal generated a lot of controversies in the media. Adeosun claimed she applied for an exemption and was issued an exemption certificate and NYSC attested to the fact that she did apply for an exemption but said nothing as to whether it was granted or not. Following the uproar caused by this controversy and several Nigerians calling for an investigation, Adeosun officially resigned as the Minister for Finance on 14th September 2018.

President Muhammadu Buhari certificate scandal

During his campaign for president in 2015, Buhari was involved in a  no-certificate scandal that almost disqualified him from running for president. The allegation was denied and his campaign coordinators provided evidence that not only was he qualified to run, he had a far higher academic qualification than is required by the constitution. However, Nigerians were still in doubt as to how true his “overqualification” was as he hired 13 Senior Advocates of Nigeria to defend him in a case brought to compel him to provide certificate or proof that he has one, where he could have just provided them on request. After Buhari won the elections, the case was swept under the rug then resurface again this year and Buhari was seen presenting 2 different results for the same exam. Mr integrity indeed!

The “Smallville” actress was part of a self-help group called NXIVM DOS, which turned out to be a sex-trafficking cult ran by founder Keith Raniere, who was arrested in March of 2018. Members are allegedly called slaves and reports stated that Mack, who could get arrested, was second-in-command of this group.
