The beautiful and phenomenal actress Mercy Johnson was born in Lagos State, Nigeria on the 28th August, 1984 to the family of Former Navy Officer Daniel Johnson & wife Elizabeth Johnson. She is a fourth child of seven children and hails from Okene in Kogi State Nigerian.
Having a civil servant as a father meant the family had to relocate severally. Hence, Mercy started her primary education in Calabar and completed it in Lagos. Her secondary education was at the Navy Secondary School in Port Harcourt Rivers State Nigeria.
Now an amazing mother of three (2girls and a boy) and wife to Prince Odianosen Okojie, the well-endowed Mercy Johnson is an inspiration to many around the world. I personally admire her bubbly personae and the way she interprets her roles in movies! Very commendable.
She scored her first role in a 2004 movie ‘The Maid’ where she played the role of a possessed house help. Her interpretation of the role was exceptional and it propelled her to stardom. Since then, Mercy has featured in numerous movies ‘Gallant babes,’ ‘Thanks for coming,’ ’30days in Atlanta,’ and Oh! Have you seen ‘Dumebi The Dirty Girl’? Her talent there was simply beautiful.
Now one of the most sought after Nollywood actresses, Mercy Johnson won the Best Actress award at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in 2013. By December 2013, she was listed as Google’s Most Searched Nollywood Celebrity, a position she also held in 2012. ‘Dumebi Goes to School‘, a sequel to the hilarious ‘Dumebi The Dirty Girl’ also won her the award for ‘Best Actress in a Comedy Role’ at the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Remember years back when Rubbin’ Minds host and Ebony Life TV presenter Ebuka Obi-Uchendu tweeted ‘Mercy Johnson makes a lot of ‘leading ladies’ in Nollywood look like amateurs? I definitely agree with him.
