The first president of the United States of America George Washington made a national Thanksgiving proclamation on the 3 October 1789. Another thanksgiving hero Sarah Josepha Hale, drove a campaign for 17 years to establish thanksgiving celebration as a national holiday. This legislation was passed in 1863 by Abraham Lincon which supported the celebration of Thanksgiving as a national feast every last Thursday in November of every year. Hale was also the author of the popular nursery rhyme “Mary had a little lamb”
