“If your eyes go blind, don’t blame it on Nini” … That’s one of the lines (semi-translated) off Niniola’s mega-hit track “Maradona” which has an irresistible rhythm and … err … a subliminally naughty hook.
Well, gentlemen, stop looking at sexy Nini either because you can’t blame her for looking so delectable. However, that’s not the only reason she’s our ‘woman crush’ for this week.
She is Niniola Apata with her stage name simply as “Niniola”. She was born on the 15th of December, 1986.
Niniola is a native of Ekiti State but was born in Lagos State where she had her primary and secondary school education at Apata Memorial High School. She is an alumna of the University of Lagos where she graduated with a Bachelor of Education certificate.
Miss ‘Maradona’ rose to recognition in 2013 after finishing third runner-up on the sixth season of Project Fame West Africa.
She had her first professional breakthrough from her debut single “Ibadi” produced by Sarz. The song which was released on the 19th of March, 2014, received positive critical reviews, topped national music charts and gained extensive airplay.
She cites Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, The Cranberries, Madonna, Beyoncé and Angelique Kidjo as her music influences. Nini describes her style of music as “Afro-House”, a blend of afrobeat and house music.
She has been nominated for over 17 awards which comprised of “Best New or Promising Act”, “Songwriter of The Year”, “Best Female Artist” and others. She won two out of them which are 2016 Afrimma Best African Collaboration (mbilo mbilo remix) and 2017 Nigerian Teens’ Choice Female Vocalist of the Year.
She is a fashionista worth following apart from her unique sensational voice. And yea, a woman to fall for. Maradonas better keep off.
