#WordOnTheStreet: Oshodi Market Demolition: Traders Speak

Oshodi Market Demolition

The demolition of the popular Owonifari market in Oshodi happened some days ago. The Lagos State Government has explained that the reason behind the demolition is simply to relocate traders from that market space within the notorious loop of Oshodi to the newly built ultra-modern Isopakodowo Market in Bolade-Oshodi.

Despite efforts by Governor Ambode, traders from the demolished Owonifari Market have reportedly rejected the Lagos State Government’s plans to relocate them to Oshodi Resettlement Market (Isopakodowo market).

There has been hue and cry from the traders that the exercise was done in bad faith. That most of them were away on holidays when the market was demolished. The Lagos State government says it gave notice but the traders insist that the notice was too short.

DD #WordOnTheStreet visited the demolition site to hear directly from the traders… Here’s what we found out.
